Archive for February 2006

Sorry for the lack of updates.

Todays word is infektion which means infection (which I seems to have had alot of lately).

Tomorrow will be time related day so prepare for a “several words day”. Some words may be some you already learned, I dont know, I need to go through the lessons to check that. :P
Also, Big applause to Bruce for surprising me with several swedish words yesterday, that I know I havent taught you.

Oh what a day.
First nothing happened and then nothing happened and then we bathed Gissa and running the weekly big antivirus scan. May not be lots of things, but it feels like an eternity when I am not able to use the the computer.

Anyway, here are todays words, which are simple to translate…

Januari = January
Februari = February
Mars = March
April = April
Maj = May
Juni = June
Juli = July
Augusti = August
September = September
Oktober = October
November = November
December = December

Since most months are spelled the same way in both languages, I wonder who borrowed the names from who.

Todays words is several as promised.

They are:

Dag = Day

MÃ¥ndag = Monday
Tisdag = Tuesday
Onsdag = Wednesday
Torsdag = Thursday
Fredag = Friday
Lördag = Saturday
Söndag = Sunday

Tomorrow we continue with names of the months, lot easier. ;)

Today it was Ladies Downhill Skiing in Torino. Swedens Anja Pärson came in 3rd place.
Downhill skiing looks dangerous, so todays word is farlig which means dangerous. :P
Tomorrow you will get to learn 7 words at once. :)

First of all, sorry for the lack of lessons recently, but here are finally some new ones…

Since its Valentines day…
hjärta which means heart.
In Sweden, Valentines day are called “Alla hjärtans dag” and this is why hjärta was chosen to be todays word #1.

Second word is guld which means gold (since Sweden won 2 golds in the Olympics today).

Sorry guys, I ran around doing things yesterday so I forgot to post a todays word.

Glömma is todays word, which means Forget

Glömde which means Forgot

Glömt, Glömda which means Forgotten

Yesterday, someone asked me if I had taught out basic words, like yes and no and so on, yet. No, it´s because I try to find a word every time that had something to do with that day (like feber the other day). But one can always change its strategy a bit. ;)
So todays words are:

ja which means yes

och which means and

nej which means no

And to answer the question how I am asked earlier…
I am better now. Went to bed with feber on monday evening and stayed there until yesterday morning.
I am not the kind of person who checks my temperature very often unless told by a doc. If I have a feber I can feel it without a thermometer, this time it must have been around 104F and I slept all day, which I think I have not been able to do before in my life (perhaps another time was the time when I had so much feber so the thermometer E as in error. :lol:)

Todays word is feber which means fever (which I had alot of yesterday, and still have a little of, today).

Todays word is tack which means thanks/thank you.

Not sure if there will be a word tomorrow, it depends how my cold develops (in other words, will Thomas get out of bed tomorrow?)

If not tomorrow, there should be a new word here on Wednesday.

Until then…take care. :)

Todays sentences are 2 of the ways you can respond with if anyone asks you Hur mår du?.

If you wanna say I am fine, you would use jag mår bra.

If you wanna say I am sick you would use jag är sjuk.

There is no good way to directly translate these two english sentences to swedish, if done, it would mean something that would be incorrect to use.

In the everyday language you would skip the first part and just respond with bra or sjuk

By the way…
If anyone wanna speed up their learning I have a zip file with pics from a beginners book of swedish.
On the pics the item is drawn, the swedish translation is written on the pic and the english name of the item is included in the filename.

Here is an example:

car

E-mail me if you want the zip file. :)

Sorry people.
Todays word comes tomorrow.

I am back after various computer problems! :)
Todays word is tillbaka which means back (appropriate ;))

But, back (the body part) can also mean rygg.

Tomorrow I am tillbaka to teach you how to respond on Word for Jan 27 - Sentence days “Hur mÃ¥r du”.

Until then…take care. :)
